I qualified as a Dental Practitioner from Guys’ and St. Thomas’ Dental School in 1993. Thereafter, I worked in several general practice based appointments across the country including Chatteris, March, Milton Keynes, London Finchley, and Cambridge. I also worked on an honorary basis at Peterborough District Hospital, Addenbrooke’s Hospital , and Stoke Mandeville Hospital to obtain additional skills in the fields of minor oral surgery, orthodontics, and intravenous cannulation. I noticed that many dental practices were not taking advantage of the advances in technology to best serve their patients. I therefore decided to set up Antwerp Dental Group in the heart of Cambridge as a Centre of Dental Excellence providing the very best dental care and using the most up to date techniques and equipment. My goal was to bring quality dentistry, both routine and advanced, and to make such a comprehensive service available to all.

I pursued advanced training in sedation, complex restoration, dental implants and orthodontics. I completed and continue with several masters programmes at the GKT (Guys’, Kings and St Thomas’ Hospital) & Warwick University. I continue masters level study both in England and abroad to ensure I can bring the most recent evidence based techniques back to our Dental Group and ultimately to the benefit of the many thousands of  our happy patients. In recent years, as my team has blossomed and enlarged, I felt that my clinical skills were insufficient to help me develop the full potential of my team. I therefore pursued study in Management and Leadership and obtained accreditation by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM Level 7), and a Certificate in Education. I continue advanced level study in these areas to keep our momentum and desire to always be excellent.

I work as Clinical Director of Apple Tree Group and act as Lead Clinician to a team of approximately 30 outstanding clinicians, namely  a team of Hygienists and Oral Health Educaters (OHEs) , a team of general dentists, and a team which focus on specialist and complex forms of dentistry.  I host an Academy for this team, where together we devise pathways for best practice, which we believe exceeds national standards. The collaborative network of highly qualified clinicians, and our Forum for Scientific Debate, the Apple Tree Academy, makes our community of professionals some what unique in our service delivery. I work in collaboration with Angie Heilman MBE to assist me develop a team of Dental Care Professionals who are the immense and oft forgotten support staff for Dentistry. I also occasionally act as a Foundation Dentist Trainer to support young qualified dentists with a professional colleague,  Dr. Preeti Bose.

Apart form my local responsibilities, I teach and mentor at the Royal College of Surgeons, and am one of the examiners for candidates sitting their Diploma in Restorative Dentistry. I am occasionally asked to lecture for the Eastern Deanery, the Association of Dental Implanvology, and the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners who are part of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The various subjects I teach are in relation to dental implantology, prosthodontics, laser based dentistry, and dental business.

At Apple Tree I accept referrals for management of complex cases which usually involve multidisciplinary care. Much of this treatment may require dental implants, orthodontics or complicated bite, root canal or gum management. For patients who are nervous about treatment, Dental Sedation is offered.

I have a special interest in the use of laser technology, and use a diode laser and an ErCrYSGG laser for various hard and soft tissue procedures. The use of this technology has a positive effect on reducing pain and swelling. My interest in lasers has led me to set up a cosmetic arm to my organization which focuses on non surgical enhancements to face and limbs by the use of a KTP and NdYag laser. My other technology interest is in the use of CAD/CAM dentistry, and I use a CEREC machine where appropriate to manufacture aesthetic restorations instead of using older style filling materials.

In my spare time, I have a passion for dental research, but also have an interest in photography and the use of creative design software. Apart from being a very successful irritant to my long suffering wife Rita, I am also a Father to 3 beautiful young children who are the loves of my life.
