Dental Bridges within Antwerp Dental Group
Antwerp Dentistry clinicians make a range of different types of bridges based on clinical requirements and budget. Traditionally a bridge replaces one or two missing teeth, and use the adjacent teeth as anchors.
Bridges are only constructed when dental implants are not appropriate. The cost of bridgework may be comparable to the cost of a budget dental implant system. Supporting teeth on implants should be done wherever possible.
Traditionally, a tooth “anchor” either side of the gap is gently shaped to accommodate the bridge which is made of a combination and metal and porcelain.
What are bridges made of?
As shown above, bridges are usually made of a precious metal. If the bridge will show, porcelain is then bonded to the base. Sometimes, there are other non-precious metals used in the base for strength.
Dental technology has now manufactured reinforced dental porcelains which do not require a metal base for strength. Where possible, such bridges can be provided for small gaps.
Are bridges expensive?
Although a bridge may seem costly they can be a wise investment that will give many years of good service.
It will also improve your appearance and bite. A bridge uses the considerable skill of the dentist and technician, and in this way, it is very similar to ordering a piece of hand-made jewellery.

Depending on the seniority of the clinician, complexity of the case, and quality of the laboratory used, the fee guide will vary between £250 per tooth unit to £1000 per tooth unit. A typical bridge will have 2-3 tooth units.

How do I look after my bridge?
You need to clean your bridge every day, to prevent problems such as bad breath and gum disease. You also have to clean under the false tooth every day. Your dentist or hygienist will show you how to use a bridge needle or special floss, as a normal toothbrush cannot reach.
